iPhone 3.0 software update review. Part II

Previously, you could have problems with organising the home screens because you accidentally did not stop flipping through them on the one you needed. This could resulted in a jump of one or few apps between the home screens.

Here are some pictures that illustrate this unwanted jump and how it is avoided now.

I want to bring Grenade app from the 6th home screen to the 5th one:

So, I start moving:

However, I fail to stop, which sometimes happen:

So, I jump to the 4th home screen and the space is found for an app there by moving Dots Free from the 3rd home screen to the 4th one:

Before 3.0 this move was permanent. Now, however, the iPhone has certain memory, so if I move back my Grenade app to the 4th home screen it moves the Dots Free back to the 3rd one:

Press the Home button:

Sweet.

iPhone enhancement needed. #1

If you are bilingual, like me, the contact names in your address book are written in English and some other language. This is what you see if you set English as your main language (pay attention to the scrolling bar on the right):

If you press on # in the bottom right corner you jump to the beginning of the list of contacts in the different language (Russian, in my case).

However, if you set your language to Russian this is what you see:

As you see, the scrolling bar on the right has a part for scrolling through contacts in Russian and a part for scrolling through contacts in English.

Don't get confused by the fact that in both cases all the contacts are named "A". Russian language has a letter "A".

I don't see why when in "Russian mode" I have the ability to scroll through English contacts and when in English mode I have just a symbol # to represent the whole list of my Russian contacts.

iPhone 3.0 software update review. Part I

After playing for some time with the new iPhone 3.0 OS I can say that the update is very good.

I have spotted some improvements that were not advertised. However, they are worth mentioning.

When iPod is playing and you double tap the Home button you can now see which song is playing:

Previously, as far as I remember, you could only control the playback.

Another good feature is that you can now scroll through the song with different speed depending on where your finger is. Try to scroll and you see this:

Also, in the Recent menu of Phone app you can now differentiate between incoming and outcoming calls. Previously only missed calls were displayed differently (in red colour). Now, the outcoming calls have extra symbol below the name of the contact to show that it is an outcoming call. Incoming calls don't have this symbol:

King's Affair

King's Affair 2009 was good. Time to go to bed.

iPhone 3.0 Copy & Paste

Personally, I did not expect 3.0 update to add such a powerful Copy and Paste function:

Basically, it is now possible to copy part of web pages and send them by email.

Awesome.

3.0 is available

It is still not on the web site, but you can download it through the iTunes.

I am doing it now.

Re: iPhone 3.0 release time

It was claimed that the update will be available at 6 p.m. GMT. However, it is still not here.
